Buying a suit can be a costly experience for the first time buyer. Spending thousands of dollars on suits, ties, dress shirts, and shoes is just not an option for everyone. Generally speaking the first time a man buys a suit he is either gearing up for his first professional job or worst yet, in college.
I have been buying and selling suits for a considerable amount of time and have become very proficient at finding the most "bang for my buck". This article will offer advice on how to stretch your dollar as far as possible.
Option one is to buy previously owned clothes at a considerable discount. You can find these suits at local thrift stores, estate sales, yard sales, and even consignment shops. Another option is to go online and check out some of the auction sites such as ebay.
I highly recommend making your first purchase from a used vendor. However, this type of purchase does have some drawbacks. Firstly it is not always possible to find a used garment in your size and in good condition locally. Secondly many people do not like to buy clothing online because they want to try it on first.
The second option is to buy high quality suits that have not been discovered by the masses yet. Suits like Pronto Uomo, Steve Harvey, Mantoni, Perry Ellis, and Sean John are all fashionable and durable but lack the high price tag you would expect. Look to pay less than $500 for each of these suit brands.
Disadvantages to this method include: limited funds for accessories, limited number of suits, and the lack of a diverse lineup. This can be tough for any man that has to wear suits everyday for work. You will need to go to the dry cleaner more often and will have to be careful not to let your suit get damaged.
The Final option is to buy department suit quality suits in bulk. Many of these types of suits can be bought at prices of $400 for two full suits. This option is great for the buyer that must wear suits on a daily basis.
The disadvantage to this option is that your suits will not stand the test of time. Lower quality suits will need to be replaced more frequently and will need to be tailored.
These three options give you a wide range of choices to make. Decide which option suits your needs the best before venturing forth. Remember to take into account what you will be wearing your suits for and how much your willing to spend before making your final purchases.
