I recently watched a video on the internet about how women can look sexier when they wore stockings and garter belts. It is hard to imagine that there was a time when stockings and garter belts were not about looking sexy they were part of the everyday clothes for women. Today if you see them in lingerie ads you are lucky.
Women don these items of dress only on their husbands or boyfriend's birthdays. Other than those special occasions they are thrown back into the bottom drawer for another year. What happen to those days when women wore stockings and garter belts and dresses and not panty hoses and pant suits?
Listen I know that it is a lot more convenient for a woman to wear pants and not dresses. That is I assume it would be easier to wear pants than a dress.
Trust me I do not know this from first hand knowledge. And by the way if you are from Great Britain I use the term pants referring to what Brits call trousers. I am not saying women are walking around in only underwear. Despite the convenience can we not pass a law somehow that women have to wear a dress with stockings and a garter belt instead of panty hose one day a month? Is that too much to ask?
I guess it would be challenged in the courts as unconstitutional. And with all the women in government today they might pass a law making men wear dresses, stockings, and garter belts. There is no going back... And that is sad. You can I believe trace these lean times for dress makers to the beginning of women's liberation.
At least the days I remember back in the early 1970's when women libbers showed up on university campuses and carried signs demanding equal rights as men as burning their bras in trash can fires; many men stood around and cheered the bra burnings. Burn baby burn! But what they did not see what women were doing outside of the camera view. They were burning their culture of dressing as women had for centuries.
They were not burning their dresses and stockings in public, but they have been lost to the war of the sexes just the same. I remember a day when I would go to school and look forward to art class in seventh grade. Our art teacher was an old lady of about 22, hey I was all of 12 back then, and who used to wear the cutest short dresses with the nude style stockings.
I use to look forward to her chalk board drawings. Especially when she had to reach to the top of the board to draw her lines. We all got to see those adorable stockings. I enjoyed her artwork even though I never became an artist. And there were also a lot of girls my age back then who looked great in dresses. Those days are only a memory however. You see cheerleaders in skirts because the whole idea is for cheerleaders to look cute and adorable. I cannot say with any conviction though that I have ever seen a great looking pair of slacks lately.
